1971 Canvas is about goods with a heritage, a bit of tradition with a todays world take.
Made by Marty – one man, a garage, a sewing machine, a 100 year old desk as a cutting table, his great grandmothers pinking shears.
Marty grew up on the edge of town, Paeroa, in a family that largely lived outdoors. They hunted, fished, camped, roamed the countryside, had dogs .Later there were horses. And this history inspires todays goods – you will find a little story with each product so you know where it came from. Enjoy.
Marty always wanted to sew some canvas things, maybe some leather too. But life kept getting in the way. He started, stopped, then started again and now here it is.
Because all 1971 Canvas goods are kiwi made – Marty tries and supports local too. In our products you will find components from kiwi businesses, canvas that’s made in Oz but sold in NZ – keeping it local is the past coming to the present – a bit like 1971 Canvas.
